It was time for a Hudson family day out. Its been a long winter, family days out have been few and far between. Our beautiful green island is lovely and green because of the rain, and i love that! However and this is a big however, rain rain go to Spain!!
Who’s ready for some sunshine and a family day out?
Me Me Me!!
Last Saturday after checking the weather app, there it was, at long last a little picture of a sun. Joy of Joys the rain was taking a break. So we hopped onto a train that carried my little family all the way to Castlerock. Castlerock flows in Mr B’s veins. The kids have caught the bug as well. Unfortunately time and lack of money has taken it toll on the little town. However it is slowly crawling back, with a few nice little family restaurants. The local Spar has a whole section on beach nick knacks, you know the ones, “my second home is a beach house”. Little lighthouses and shells everywhere, as well as Mars bars, it really has everything you need for an afternoon.
Nothing, nada, zip…..theres no amusements, toy shops or fast food restaurants. BLISS, what children can’t see they can’t want, this is the secret to parenthood! Right here, who knew!! So what to do? We headed to the beach and it was glorious! It was bright, the ocean smell was fabulous and Mr B took one breath of that Castlerock air and decompressed instantly. We spent 3 hours on the beach running after each other, the kids playing in the sand dunes. Mr B & I sat on the pier and watched the world potter by. I was behind my camera for most of it, as I always am, so i was blissfully happy. The kids had rosey cheeks and were getting along….i know weird right….it took a while to get used to.
Hunger finally dragged them off the beach and we headed to Bertha’s Bar for something to eat. Its a little bar that has been there forever, and has adapted to the times. The food served was simple but very good, and not expensive! 4 hours later with exhausted kids, happy parents we were waiting for the train to take us back home. The kids had a great day, Mummy & Daddy had a great day, no fuss, inexpensive RESULT!
We also had a bonus and spotted a celebrity!! I played it super cool and only did one head whip, when i realised who it was 🙂
So if you are looking for something to do with the kids coming into Spring i would thoroughly suggest you pop yourself on the train and visit Castlerock. Its a family day out at the beach when its not hot and you don’t need to worry about the kids burning. Stress free afternoon to blow off those winter cobwebs.
Here are a few images of my own family photoshoot at Castlerock 🙂
